Long before the insecticide DDT (Dichloro Diphenyl Trichloroethane ) was invented by the West as a chemical mosquito killer plus a repellent the only natural mosquito repellent used in countries like Malaysia and Indonesia are citronella oil. Citronella oil is the essential oil manufactured by steam distillation of dried leaves of the citronella leaves . Cymbopogon nardus is the botanical name of Citronella plant cultivated in Sri Lanka. The main volatile constituents responsible for the inherent aroma of citronella oil are citronelal, citronellol and geraneol. Citronella oil is popular as a natural insect repellent. Its mosquito repellent qualities have been verified by research,[15] including effectiveness in repelling Aedes aegypti (dengue fever mosquito).To be continually effective, most citronella repellent formulas need to be reapplied to the skin. The US Environmental Protection Agency states that citronella oil has little or no toxicity when used as a topical insect repellent, with no reports of adverse effects of concern over a 60-year period. If used according to label instructions in the US, citronella oil is not expected to pose health risks to people, including children and other sensitive populations. The US Food & Drug Administration considers citronella oil as generally recognized as safe (GRAS).

Deegayu research and development team has been successful in developing Deegayu Pengiri mosquito repellent cream as a natural mosquito repellent which can repel mosquitoes without killing them unharming the person who uses the cream. There are a large number of chemical based mosquito repellent and mosquito killer products in the form of mosquito coils, vaporizers , powders, smokes, liquids etc. etc. containing various pesticide compounds namely Malathion, Permethrin, prallethrin, esbiothrin, D-allethrin etc. All the chemicals used in mosquito products are known to be injurious to health. It can create meany adverse health effects such as nervous debilities, cancer, respiratory problems,, heart diseases and so on in the long run.

Deegayu Pengiri has been formulated by using Sri Lankan Citronella oil as the active ingredient distributing in an inert base. Once the cream of Deegayu Pengiri is applied on the exposed areas of the skin as dabs it prevents mosquito bite through the mechanism described below.
How Deegayu Pengiri repels or protect you from mosquitoes?
1). Mosquitoes reach and bite us not because of anything but to suck blood for relieving their hunger. They identify the human skin as the target through their sensory organs by the smell they sense from the human body. Once Deegayu Pengiri is applied on the skin as dabs, mosquitoes cannot sense the natural human smell as it is due to camouflaging effect created by the strong smell of volatile ingredients citronellal, citronellol and geraniol present in citronella oil. This masking effect will prevent the possible attack by the mosquitoes who are hanging around in the surrounding areas.
2). The aroma of the volatile constituent citronellal in citronella oil severely affects the nervous system of mosquitoes once they breath and as a result it partially paralyzes the legs of them weakening the grip they tend to make while they bite on the skin. This way once Deegayu Pengiri is applied as dabs on the skin the probability of mosquito bites will be reduced drastically. This way it will reduce the risk of Dengue and other mosquito bread deadly diseases specially in children who are more prone to mosquito attack due to their exposure and inattentiveness.
